Knapps Castle

Out of all of the things to do in Santa Barbara, going to Knapp's Castle is definitely among one of my favorites. The castle, or should I say the ruins of the castle are located up the 154. The drive is about 30 minutes from Santa Barbara City College, but it is definitely worth the drive.

All of the hikes in Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara County are beautiful, however this one is a little bit different. It's only about a seven to ten minute walk to the ruins of the castle which makes it a great spot to go if you aren't feeling like a rigorous hike and just want to enjoy some gorgeous scenery.  Once you get up to the ruins there is a sort of platform with a bunch of different levels, but don't be fooled, this is not all there is to knapps castle. If you go past the main platform and continue down through the grass/dirt where the paved pathway ends you'll find another set of ruins. This is personally my favorite place and favorite view of the entire scene. Down on what appears to be the second level is a rope swing which captures most of my attention every time I head up to the castle. It reminds me of being a little kid and not having a care in the world besides hanging out with your friends and enjoying the beautiful outdoors.

I strongly recommend this little place if you need a break from your crazy busy life. It is so serene and relaxing, the view almost lifts a weight off of your shoulders all in itself. Sometimes you just need a little get away, and this place definitely makes you take a step back and appreciate all of the beauty in life.

p.s. this place would be a fabulous location for a date, trust me.. take notes my friends (;
